Murray Gell-Mann, UNM University Professor, is Dead at 89
We note with sadness the death of Murray Gell-Mann on May 24, 2019 in Santa Fe.
Gell-Mann held the unique rank of University Professor in the UNM Department of Physics and Astronomy for several years during the 90s and the 00s, where he taught a popular seminar once a year.
Gell-Mann was one of great theoretical physicists of the 20th century, known especially for his development of the theory of quarks (including giving them their name).
He won the Nobel Prize in 1969, "for his contributions and discoveries concerning the classification of elementary particles and their interactions", and numerous other awards and honors.
