Starting in August, 2019, Francis-Yan Cyr-Racine will join the Department of Physics and Astronomy as an assistant professor.

Cyr-Racine earned his Ph.D. in physics at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He was a W. M. Keck Institute for Space Studies Prize Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, before joining the Department of Physics of Harvard University in 2015.

Cyr-Racine's research brings together a unique mix of particle physics, cosmology, and astronomy to determine the properties of the mysterious dark matter permeating our Universe. He is particularly interested in how the microphysics of dark matter affects structure formation on a broad range of scales, from the largest distances probed by the cosmic microwave background to those corresponding to the smallest dwarf galaxy. A significant part of his work aims at developing novel techniques, both theoretical and numerical, to either look at current data with a fresh eye in light of these new ideas, or to prepare for upcoming large cosmological and astrophysical data sets.

He originates from Quebec, Canada, and when not working, he enjoys the great outdoors, traveling, playing music, and pondering about history.
