UNM alumnus Shohini Ghose named 2014 TED Fellow
Shohini Ghose, an associate physics professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, has been named a 2014 TED Fellow.
Ghose was chosen as an expert and innovator in her field, and joins 20 other international, interdisciplinary TED Fellows, including scientists, conservationists, educators, artists and musicians. She is described on the TED website as a "theoretical physicist who examines how the laws of quantum mechanics may be harnessed to develop next-generation computers and novel protocols."
"Ghose's work ... continues to have a positive impact on women in science worldwide," said Abby Goodrum, Laurier's vice-president: Research. "She is, indeed, a bright star."
Among her duties as a TED Fellow, Ghose will deliver a Ted Talk on her work at the Vancouver TED conference, which runs from March 17 to 21, 2014.
TED is a non-profit organization that brings together inspired thinkers and makes their talks and performances available to the world.
Dr. Ghose graduated from UNM in 2003. Her thesis was entitled "Quantum and classical dynamics of atoms in a magneto-optical lattice". She was a member of Dr. Ivan Deutsch's Research Group.
