Sandra Ortiz receives "Noteworthy Technical Support Person" Award from Sigma Xi

Sandra Ortiz has been selected by the awards committee as a recipient of this year's UNM Chapter of Sigma Xi "Noteworthy Technical Support Person" Award. Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society is a non-profit membership society of nearly 90,000 scientists and engineers who were elected to the society because of their research achievements or potential.

Our department has co-sponsored the Science & Society Distinguished Public Talks of UNM Sigma Xi Chapter for over the last 20 years, making it the longest running successful series of talks on campus. Sandra has contributed in a pivotal role to the continuing success of this program. She has ensured that flyers advertising the talks are prepared on time and advertisements sent to various places, their contents checked for accuracy. She has also successfully managed the reimbursements of honoraria to the invited distinguished speakers and provided logistic support for sending out the invitations to the Chapter membership for the Annual Banquet. Sandra has exceptional skills in spotting troublesome bottlenecks, often before they cause any real damage. Everyone who has ever worked with her has enjoyed her attitude and her dedication, extending to working late into the evening or on weekends when needed to meet a critical deadline.
